4 arrested, IED defused near Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: A combined security force on Sunday captured four persons north of Kirkuk while another force defused an improvised explosive device (IED) south of the city, according to a senior security official. “A force from the Kirkuk Districts Police Department (KDPD), patrols of the Alton, Kubri and Shawan police stations and personnel from the National Anti-Crime & Investigations Department, conducted search raids on houses within their precincts to verify the identities of inhabitants without official approvals,” KDPD Director Brig. Sarhad Qader told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The raiding force arrested four wanted persons, one of them in accordance with Article 4 of the law on terrorism, another in accordance with Article 406 on homicide, and a third in accordance with Article 421 on abduction,” he said. “The fourth one was a suspect. All of them were referred to the Kirkuk Criminal Investigations Department,” added Qader. Another source from the Kirkuk-based Joint Coordination Center (JCC) said a patrol and soldiers from the Iraqi Army’s 12th Division, 64th Brigade’s 3rd Contingent, defused an IED on the Kirkuk-Daqquq road planted near al-Mashrou’ Bridge, 35 km south of Kirkuk. The oil-rich Kirkuk, a city of mixed Kurdish, Turkmen and Arab population, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (S) 2
