Agreement between JFO, BOC to protect reporters during demonstrations

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – Iraq ’s Journalistic Freedoms Observatory on Wednesday has announced that an agreement was reached with the Baghdad Operations Command to insure press coverage during demonstrations and to allow SNG cars to carry out direct coverage of those demonstrations.   “The agreement, reached between the Observatory and the Baghdad Operations Command points out to the securing of media coverage during future demonstrations in Baghdad, as well as achieving necessary protection, instead of attacking the reporters, along with preparing special places for them and allowing them to tour the venue of the demonstration,” the Observatory’s Executive Director, Ziad al-Ujeily told IraqiNews.com news agency.   He said that the SNG cars, belonging to television channels, would be allowed to carry out direct transmission of the demonstrations.   “The Baghdad Operations Command has assured that there won’t be any assault against journalists and that there would be a media team to coordinate with different media institutions that wish to cover the demonstrations,” he added.   Noteworthy is that hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have demonstrated in different Iraqi provinces, including the capital of Baghdad on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, demanding the improvement of services and living conditions, along with putting an end for corruption and to achieve employment opportunities, as well as social justice.
