Al-Iraqiya Bloc condemns detention of female activist

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The official spokesman of al-Iraqiya Bloc, led by Iyad Allawi, on Saturday condemned the detention of an a female activist for her participation in a demonstration in Baghdad last Friday.   “A security force, in civilian clothing, detained the activist, Sana’a al-Duleimy, with the use of an ambulance vehicle, locking her in a police center for several hours, where she was exposed to rough beating, abuse and humiliation,” Maysoun al-Damaloujy said in a statement, as was received by IraqiNews.com news agency.   Damaloujy explained that the said security bodies “not only violated her constitutional rights, but even the most simple moral values. Its acts stand counter to all principles and legitimacy, because its said act reflects simple understanding of human rights and a restoration back to the activities of Iraq’s former ‘Baath” regime.”   She called on Human Rights and the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committees to “shoulder the responsibility before Allah (God) and the people to carry out a serious investigation and to bravely uncover the source of the said orders and the names of those who carried out such acts against our people and those brave persons, who shared in peaceful protests.”   Damaloujy also called for the “necessity to implement the Arbil Agreement, which clearly includes an item to merge the unconstitutional security bodies with the Ministries of Defense and Interior, in order to avoid their transformation into bodies for violence in the hands of a new dictator.”   SKH (TR)/SR 322
