Army forces kill 20 IS members, destroy car bombs southeast of Nineveh

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The army’s 9th armored brigade announced on Thursday killing 20 members of the Islamic State, as well as destroying car bombs, southeast of the province.

Deputy-commander of the army’s 9th brigade, Brigadier General Waleed Khalifa, said in a press statement, “Today, forces from the 9th armored brigade, backed by Federal Police, advanced toward the neighborhoods of al-Salam, Yarmja, al-Wehda, al-Intsar and the Industrial neighborhood, southeast of Mosul.”

“Our forces killed more than 20 members of the Islamic State, and destroyed a number of booby-trapped vehicles,” Khalifa added.

Khalifa also revealed that security forces are achieving significant results in the liberation of these neighborhoods, while also praised the efforts of the international coalition air force and Iraqi Air Force.

Earlier today, Commander of the Counter-Terrorism Service, Major General Abdel Ghani al-Asadi announced starting the second phase of the battles to retake Mosul.
