(IraqiNews.com) Diyala – On Saturday, Police Command of Diyala Province announced, that a security force arrested an individual who deluded his family to believe he was “kidnapped” in order to take money from them in the province.

The media spokesman for the command, Colonel Ghaleb al-Attiyah, said in a statement obtained by IraqiNews.com, “A security force from the local police arrested a man in a raid operation near Baquba, after suspicions in his claim of being kidnapped a few weeks ago and then released after a ransom paid by his family,” noting that, “This incident was nothing but a charade with the purpose of making money”.

Attiyah added, “The investigation with the detainee proved that his kidnap was deceptive and was executed in cooperation with one of his friends in order for his family to pay the money for his release, as they thought he was actually kidnapped.”

The spokesman noted, “The detainee was addicted and following a deviant path; he tried to secure some money to continue doing so by deceiving his family with no regard to the great harm he inflicted upon his family, which sold some of their properties to secure the ransom money, believing that their son’s life was in danger.”
