Basra’s U.S. Puka Base handed over to Iraqi Forces:

BAGHDAD: IraqiNews.com: Southern Iraq’s Basra Province has received the U.S. Forces Puka Base from the American troops on Thursday, according to an urgent report by the semi-official al-Iraqiya Satellite TV Channel. “Basra Province has received the U.S. Army’s Puka base from the American forces,” the Channel quoted its report in Basra as saying. Puka base had been the venue of the largest American detention prison after north Baghdad’s Abu-Ghuraib prison, that was built by the U.S. forces in Um-Qasr Terminal west of Basra, close to the Kuwait borders, and was closed after the signing of the U.S.-Iraq Security Agreement in September, 2009. Basra, the center of the province carrying the same name, is 590 kms to the south of Baghdad. SK (A) / SKH 79
