Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Two Iraqi citizens were wounded Saturday in a bomb explosion in eastern Baghdad, a security source was quoted as saying.

“A roadside bomb went off Saturday in al-Baladiyat district, east of Baghdad, leaving two civilians wounded,” the source told Iraqi TV channel Alsumaria News.

“The security forces cordoned off the blast scene, and carried the wounded into a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source added.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
