Bomb blast kills, wounds 16 army elements south of Baghdad

( Baghdad – A security source said on Wednesday, that 16 elements belonging to the army had been either killed or injured in a bomb blast that took place in al-Latifiya south of Baghdad.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said in a statement obtained by, “This evening, a booby-trapped house exploded in the area of al-Latifiya while an army force was carrying out an inspection [operation] in the area, resulting in the death of one officer and five soldiers, in addition to wounding 10 others.”

The source also added, “A security force blockaded the area of the incident and transferred the injured to a nearby hospital and the dead bodies to the forensic medicine authority.”
