Car bomb wounds ranking officer, 4 of his guards in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / IraqiNews.com: The car bombing that hit a ranking police officer in Kirkuk city earlier Monday left the officer and four of his guards wounded, in addition to a 3-year old child. “The child was in the blast location by coincidence,” a local police source told IraqiNews.com news agency. He explained that the blast heavily damaged the officer’s car and the surrounding area. Earlier, another police source said that a car bomb went off on Monday targeting a high ranking police officer in southwestern Kirkuk city. “The car bomb went off in the al-Wassiti neighborhood, southwestern Kirkuk, targeting Police Colonel Ahmed Shamirani,” the police source told IraqiNews.com news agency. He did not mention further details, but noted that the blast caused a number of injuries including Shamirani. The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad. MH (P)/SR 2
