Detainee dies due to torture in Maysan

Maysan, Amara (IraqiNews.com) The Security Committee within Maysan Provincial Council assured “The death of a detainee due to the torture committed by police elements during an investigation conducted with him at a security center in the province.”

The Head of the Security Committee, Sarhan Salem Younes, stated to Iraqi News IraqiNews.com on Sunday “The detainee, Adnan Blasem, was under custody of the Criminal Investigations Directorate of central Amara on the background of accusing him of being involved in conducting kidnapping operation.”

Younes added that “The detainee died due to the torture committed by the elements who were investigating him at the Police Directorate,” noting that “The cause of death was the failure of his kidneys.”

The Head of the Security Committee stressed that “An investigation committee has been formed by the Security Committee and the Human Rights Committee in Maysan Provincial Council to uncover the involved police elements and conduct the legal procedures against them.” \
