Diyala (IraqiNews.com) ISIS News Today: A local official in Diyala has announced financial rewards for citizens who kill or arrest suicide bombers targeting their regions.

Mohamed Baqer al-Tamimi, mayor of Abi Saida region, told Alghad Press that a security member or citizen who arrests or kills a suicide bomber before carrying out an attack will be rewarded IQD5 million (nearly USD4.274).

He said the measure is designed to boot vigilance and preempt potential breaches.

Diyala has seen occasional bloody attacks against civilians and security members since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition launched a wide-scale offensive in 2016 to retake areas held by Islamic State militants since 2014.

Two persons, including an officer, were killed, while seven others were wounded in a suicide attack in Muqdadiyah, northeast of the Diyala last Saturday.

Violence and armed conflicts left 297 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of ِAugust, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths.

Diyala’s borders with Salahuddin are among future targets of Iraqi government military operations against the Islamic State.
