Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A fifth decayed body of a dead civilian has been found in less than 24 hour in west of Mosul, a security source from Nineveh Police said on Wednesday.

Speaking to BasNews, Cap. Amir Wathiq said, “Security troops found two unidentified dead bodies, today, in Hawi al-Kanisah region, for a young man in his twenties. The body was transferred to forensic medicine department in Mosul.”

This makes the total number of dead bodies found to reach five corpses found in less than 24 hours, as three others were found in Tuesday, according to Wathiq.

On Saturday, eight dead bodies of civilians were reportedly recovered from under the debris, while removing the rubble near Tigris river in Mosul.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, the group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
