BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The security of the fortified Green Zone is part and parcel of the capital’s security, the commander of Baghdad’s Brigade said on Thursday. “The assumption of security responsibilities in the Green Zone came following a series of meetings between Iraqi and U.S. officials,” Staff. Brig. Imad Yassin said during the handover ceremony that was attended by IraqiNews.com. The state-run al-Iraqiya TV said earlier today that Iraqi security forces has received the fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad from the U.S. forces. The handover marks the launch of the security agreement between Iraq and the United States. The Green Zone is home to many sensitive government departments, the Iraqi cabinet and parliament, as well as the U.S. and British embassies. SS (P) 1
