Gunman arrested for killing peshmerga fighters

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: A combined Iraqi army and police force arrested a gunman in a village in the area of Qarat Tabba, Khanaqin district, on charges of killing nine Kurdish peshmerga fighters, a local official security source said. “The force conducted a security raid in the village of Awwal, Qarat Tabba district, (25 km) northwestern Khanaqin, arresting a gunman on charges of killing nine peshmerga fighters in the area,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. The peshmerga is also called the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Guard Force. “The detainee, a local resident in the area, confessed to the charges pressed against him during the course of investigations,” he said, adding the confessions will be aired on local TV stations. Khanaqin is 155 km northeast of Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AmR (P)/SR 1
