IED kills soldier, wounds another in Mosul

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: One Iraqi soldier was killed and another was wounded in an explosive charge attack in eastern Mosul city, according to a local security source. “A roadside improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near an Iraqi army patrol vehicle in Bakr neighborhood, eastern Mosul, killing a serviceman and wounding another,” the source told IraqiNews.com. The vehicle was destroyed in the explosion, the source added, providing no further details. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. The original city of Mosul stands on the west bank of the Tigris River, opposite the ancient biblical city of Nineveh on the east bank, but the metropolitan area has now grown to encompass substantial areas on both banks, with five bridges linking the two sides.
