Iraqi troops arrest a man and take him to a lock-up for interrogation

Anbar ( Iraqi police forces arrested on Friday the militant in charge for transporting arms for Islamic State extremists at Anbar province, a security source was quoted saying.

Almaalomah website quoted a source at Anbar province police saying that troops set up an ambush and arrested a senior Islamic State leader who had been in charge for transporting arms for the extremist group across the province’s cities.

He was arrested at al-Bouthaib region, north of the province.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State militants in December, ending three years of operations to retake territories occupied by the militants to declare a self-styled “caliphate”.

Anbar’s town of Rarwa, close to borders with Syria, was the last IS bastion recaptured by the Iraqi forces. The government had said its forces regained full control over the borders with Syria, but militants have staged occasional attacks from there, prompting the government to carry out military raids on the group’s locations inside Syria.
