Iraq to request NATO to help train security forces

(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) announced that Iraq plans to ask the alliance to help train its security forces.

NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said in a statement, reported by ‘Reuters’ and followed by IraqiNews.com, “Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in a meeting that Baghdad would send the request.”

Lungescu added that, “The ambassadors of NATO members will review this request as soon as it’s received by the alliance.”

Today, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi met with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, on the sidelines of the International Conference on the fight against terrorism. They discussed the efforts of the international community and NATO countries to support Iraq in its fight against terrorism, political and security developments and the progress made by Iraqi forces.
