Iraqi MP accuses Prime Minister Maliki’s office with involvement in escape of terrorist prisoners in Basra.

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The Legislature in Iraq ’s al-Ahrar (Liberals) Bloc, Uday Awad, has uncovered on Sunday the existence of documents with the Parliament’s Fact-Finding Committee, proving the involvement of an official in the Prime Minister’s office in the escape of terrorist prisoners from a Basra prison last February.   “The Committee has documents, proving the involvement of Abu-Ammar al-Basri, the official in the Prime Minister’s office, in having facilitated the escape of terrorists from the Presidential Palaces Prison in Basra ,” Awad told IraqiNews.com news agency.   He said that his committee had uncovered documents, official letters and records, including phone numbers of a number of terrorists, who had contacted Abu-Ammar al-Basri and other employees in the office of Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki.   Noteworthy is that 12 prisoners, belonging to al-Qaeda organization, have managed to escape from the Presidential Palaces Prison in Basra last December. Awad said that his Committee members “have concentrated recently to get delicate information and confessions of defendants, as well as others involved in the issue.”   “The Committee members have called for the revision of the activity of the security and intelligence bodies, proposing the formation of national intelligence cells, able to act with high efficiency,” he added.   The Presidency Palaces prison, is one of the detention centers belonging to Basra Province , where the most important demanded members of the armed groups and al-Qaeda organization were detained, and had been occupied by the British Forces before their withdrawal from Iraq in 2007.   SKH (RT) 595
