Diyala ( – Iraqi security forces arrested on Wednesday an Islamic State terrorist wearing an explosive belt in Diyala province.

“Acting upon intelligence information, a force from the Diyala Operations Command arrested an Islamic State terrorist in Diyala province,” the privately-owned al-Madar news website quoted the Security Media Cell as saying in a press statement.

The terrorist was wearing an explosive belt when he was arrested, the statement read, adding that weapons and ammunition were also found in his possession.

Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 with the help of a US-led alliance, having retaken all the territory captured by the extremists in 2014 and 2015.

Despite the group’s crushing defeat at its main havens across Iraq, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks against troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.
