Iraq’s Prime Minister orders lifting of concrete barriers from Baghdad Streets.

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com – Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, at his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has ordered the formation of a high-level committee entitled to lift the concrete barriers from all areas of Baghdad, provided the measure won’t affect the security situation, the Baghdad Operations Command had announced on Sunday.   “H.E. the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Nouri al-Maliki, has ordered the formation of a high-level committee, to comprise the Baghdad Operations Command and to coordinate with the Office of the Lord-Mayor of Baghdad, to lift the concrete barriers from all areas of Baghdad, in such a way that won’t undermine the security conditions,” the Baghdad Operations Command said. The Baghdad Operations Command, in another statement, said that “the Baghdad Operations Command had began lifting the concrete barriers from the streets and by-roads of west Baghdad ’s al-Baya’a district on Sunday.   The said concrete barriers were installed on all areas of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad after the downfall of the former Baath Regime, that followed the U.S.-British occupation of Iraq in 2003.   IT / SKH   484
