ISIS controls a third of Kobani says Syrian Observatory for Human Rights

imageKobani (IraqiNews.com) On Thursday the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that ISIS had pushed forward on the town of Kobani near the border with Turkey and it controls more than a third of the Kurdish town.

“ISIS control more than a third of Kobani – all eastern areas, a small part of the northeast and an area in the southeast,” said Rami Abdulrahman, the head of the Human Rights Observatory in Syria.

Noteworthy, US-led air strikes failed to halt the ISIS advance on the town and Turkish forces overseeing the situation from the near border have not yet intervened.

According to Reuters, the United Nations says, that only a few hundred inhabitants remain in the town of Kobani and the Kurdish fighters say the battle will end in a massacre if ISIS wins the border town.

Earlier today, US Secretary of State John Kerry has said, that the loss of Kobani would not be a strategic defeat in the two-month-old US air campaign against the ISIS group.
