Journalist killed, 3 civilians wounded by violence in 24 hrs

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi journalist was killed and three civilians were injured during acts of violence that occurred in different parts of Iraq throughout the past 24 hours, security sources said on Saturday. In Kirkuk, a local police chief, Brig. Sarhad Qadir, said that unknown gunmen opened fire on Friday evening on Diyar Abbas, a journalist, in front of the headquarters of Kirkuk’s artists’ syndicate. The attack seriously wounded Abbas, who died in hospital. On Saturday morning, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near a vehicle carrying the deputy director of Kirkuk’s Waqf (Endowments) department Mulla Mohammed Azad Khorshid in the western neighborhood of Tabba, wounding him, his wife and an escort. Meanwhile, joint forces from the U.S. and Iraqi armies arrested Sheikh Nassir al-Saadi, a prominent leader in the Sadrist movement, in downtown Amara’s al-Orouba area.
