Justice Ministry: Salah-il-Din Police hurdle execution of death sentences against fugitives"

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Ministry of Justice accused the Command of Salah-il-Din Operations of delaying the implementation of the death sentences which are issued against the fugitives of Tasfirat prison.

The Ministry of Justice reported in statement received by IraqiNews.com on Saturday that ”The Ministry demanded the Command of Salah-il-Din Operations to deliver 40 sentenced to death prisoners that the Presidency of the Iraqi Republic has ratified their verdicts, but the command delivered only three convicts whose verdicts were executed by the ministry as soon as they were received.”

An armed group with the assistance of some rebel prisoners controlled Tasfirat prison in Tikrit city after detonating a car bomb in front of the prison.

The Ministry of Defense confirmed imposing its control on the prison and the security situation in the province, while Salah-il-Din governorate decided to dismiss and detain the Police commander Maj. Gen. Abdul Karim al-Khazraji and appoint the Major General Ghanim al-Quraishi instead of Khazraji.

The Police Command in Salah-il-Din province announced allocating financial rewards for reporting about the fugitives who escaped from Tasfirat prison. \
