Man to hang over Karbala car bomb

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: The Karbala Criminal Court on Sunday handed down a death sentence against a man after he was found guilty of involvement in a car bomb attack carried out near the provincial building more than two years ago, an official source said. “The court sentenced a man to death by hanging for having waged a car bombing attack that targeted the governor. The attack left a number of civilians killed or wounded,” the source told IraqiNews.com. “The condemned man confessed to booby-trapping a vehicle in al-Latifiya area, south of Baghdad, and brought it into Karbala to assassinate the governor while he was passing through the area,” the source said, not mentioning when the ruling was handed down. A car bomb on May 7, 2006 left two people killed and six others wounded. The holy Shiite city of Karbala lies 108 km southwestern the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (P)/SR 1
