Maysan, Amara (IraqiNews.com) The Command of Maysan Police Department denied responsibility for the death of a detainee due to torture.

A source of Maysan Police Command reported to IraqiNews.com on Monday “Maysan Police Directorate does not hold any responsibility over the death of the detainee (Adnan Balsam) because the arrest operation of the victim was conducted by the Iraqi Army Forces within Maysan Operations Command which consists of Police and Army elements.”

The source added “The dead detainee was an element of the Army Forces and he was arrested in a prison belongs to the Iraqi Army, specifically, the headquarter of the 10th Division, (38th) Brigade in Betaira Airport in Amara City of central Maysan,” noting that “The detainee has died in his prison at the headquarter.”

The Deputy Director of Sadr General Hospital in Maysan province Saadon al-Alaq declared that “The Maysan Appeal Court launched an investigation to find out the reasons of the death and send an official decree to the hospital, which has the dead body of the victim, demanding to explain the details of the victim’s death.”

Al-Alaq pointed out that “The reason of the death was the defect in kidneys and the corpse was transported to the morgue, but, the family of the victim demanded to transport the corpse to Baghdad to be examined there.”

The Head of the Security Committee in Maysan Provincial Council Sarhan Salem Younis revealed to IraqiNews.com on last Sunday that “The death of the detainee, Adnan Balsam, was caused due to the torture committed by the security forces at an investigation center in Maysan province.” \
