MP asks about possibility of Iraq’s commitment towards Security Agreement with U.S. with non-existence of security ministers in Iraq

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Independent Member of Parliament, Safiya al-Suheil, has wondered on Tuesday about possibility of Iraq’s commitment towards the Security Agreement signed between Baghdad and Washington in 2008, at a time when Iraq does not have Security Ministers. “I support the departure of the American forces from Iraq, but how can Iraq commit itself towards the Security Agreement, signed between Iraq and the United States, when the political forces have not reached an accord to about naming the Ministers of Defense, Interior and National Security?,” she asked, in a statement for IraqiNews.com news agency.   Noteworthy is that differences have taken place over the past three months about the nomination of security ministers, especially the Interior and Defense Ministers, the first being the share of the National Coalition, led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and the other by al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by former Prime Minister Iyad allawi, with each of the sides rejecting the candidate of the other.   The U.S. combat troops had withdrawn from Iraq at the end of August last, according to the  Security Agreement concluded between Baghdad and Washington at the end of 2008, whilst the remaining  50,000 American troops are scheduled to leave the country by the end of the current year.   SKH (TI)/SR 621
