MP criticizes demands to reduce security, defense budget

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP Abdul Salam al-Maliki of the State of Law Coalition criticized the demands of some political blocs to reduce the budget of the security and defense sectors in the complementary budget.

He said in a press statement to IraqiNews.com that ”Our country in these days really needs to supply its army with modern weapons as soon as possible in order to provide the protection for the Iraqi border areas from any foreign intervenes, especially after the deployment of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean and the threats of the United States to have changes in Syria outside the framework of the United Nations.”

He added that ”These demands aim to keep the Iraqi Army weak with no ability to protect the country which will enable these political blocs to impose the international agendas by force on Iraq which is completely unacceptable,” stressing that “The countries usually depend on its army rather than the opposite.” \
