Sistani’s representative in Baghdad survives assassination attempt

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Ali al-Shiwili, the representative of the Supreme Religious Authority Ayatollah, Ali Sistani, survived an assassination attempt in Sadr city of eastern Baghdad.

Security source mentioned to IraqiNews.com on Friday that ”The Imam of Ali Akbar mosque, Sheikh Ali al-Shiwili, has survived an armed attack implemented by unidentified gunmen by silenced weapons in Chuwader area of Sadr city.”

The source added “The gunmen who were driving motorbikes fled away to unknown destination after implementing the attack while the police launched an investigation over the attack.”

Several representatives of religious authorities had been subject to assassination attempts targeting then at their houses in the middle and southern provinces during the past months.
