(IraqiNews.com) On Sunday Spanish Defense Minister, Pedro Morines announced that his country intends to send troops to Iraq at the end of this year to train its forces to fight the so-called Islamic state in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), while emphasizing that Madrid would allow the American military to use the bases of Moron and Rota in southern Spain to carry out their operations in northern Iraq.

Morines said, at the wake of a meeting with his American counterpart Chuck Hagel in Washington, that “the Spanish parliament will vote this week to send 300 soldiers to Iraq to train Iraqi forces to carry out special tasks and demining and dealing with explosives,” noting that “the mission could begin at the end of the year because the whole process is evolving rapidly. ”

The Spanish minister emphasized that his country would not join in any way to the international coalition led by the United States against the extremist organization in Syria, noting that “Madrid will allow the military Americans using the military bases of Moron and Rota militaries in southern Spain to carry out their operations in northern Iraq.”
