Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Security services have arrested three Islamic State members in an operation, west of Anbar, a source from the province said on Tuesday.
“Security troops managed to carry out an operation in each of Rutba, Hit and Qaim towns, west of Anbar, during which three Islamic State members were arrested,” the source told Almaalomah website.
Moreover, the troops “defused several bombs and booby-trapped bodies,” the source said.
Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
On Friday, three soldiers were wounded in a bomb blast in Hit city. A commander from Anbar police was killed on Thursday, while two others of his bodyguards were wounded as a bomb, placed on the side of the international highway at the Kilo 120 region in west of the province, went off.
Last week, five Islamic State members were killed while they were booby-trapping the road which links Wadi al-Qathf to the kilo 160 region in Rutba town.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
