Diyala (IraqiNews.com) The police command in Diyala has announced arresting two terrorists, one of whom was the main financier of Islamic State cells in the province.

In remarks to Alghad Press on Thursday, Col. Ghaleb al-Attiyah, spokesperson for Diyala police, said, “security troops managed to arrest two terrorists, one of whom was the main funder of IS cells. He used to provide them with logistics and money at the northeastern region in Diyala.”

The arrested, according to Attiyah, “were transferred to security cell for investigations. Necessary measures were taken.”

Earlier this week, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasool, spokesperson of the Security Media Center, said the intelligence troops, in collaboration with the army, arrested the administrative official of one of the regions within Islamic State’s so-called Diyala State.

Thousands of IS militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition, was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group.

In December, Abadi announced full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members. However, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country.

The war against IS has displaced at least five million people.
