U.S. forces detain 5 suspected al-Qaeda gunmen

Iraq-Coalition BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: U.S. forces said on Tuesday they arrested five suspected al-Qaeda gunmen during operations in central and northern Iraq. “One wanted man and four other suspected terrorists were detained Tuesday as Coalition forces continued to degrade al-Qaeda in Iraq’s operating capabilities in central and northern Iraq,” said the U.S. army in a statement received by IraqiNews.com. “A wanted man was captured by Coalition forces operating in the Jazeera Desert, about 52 km southwest of Mosul. The suspected terrorist, who is believed to be associated with the region’s AQI courier network and senior leaders, surrendered himself to Coalition forces,” it added. “In Jalula, about 123 km northwest of Baghdad, forces targeted a suspected AQI car bomb and finance operative. Two men believed to be associates of the wanted man were detained during the operation,” the statement also said. “Another Coalition force operation targeting an alleged weapons facilitator in Baghdad netted two suspects,” it noted.
