Urgent: Iraq Security Forces regain control of Speicher base

kTikrit (IraqiNews.com) On Friday, a security source in Salahuddin province said that the security forces regained control of the Base of Speicher in the north of Tikrit in full after it came under attack by gunmen of the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, resulted in the occupation of parts of the base.

The source said, in an interview for IraqiNews.com, that “the violent clashes erupted today between the security forces and a number of gunmen ISIL; they intended to control the Speicher base in the north of Tikrit,” noting that “the security forces and the attribution of Army Aviation was able to regain control the base in full after many insurgents were killed.”

The source, who asked not to be named, said “There are dozens of bodies of militants of ISIL in the vicinity of the base,” pointing to “the difficulty of obtaining statistical numbers.”

A security source in Salahuddin province said, on Thursday (July 17, 2014), that the gunmen of ISIL took control of the first runway of Speicher Base in the north of Tikrit, as pointed out the damage of two planes after two mortar shells landing on the camp.

The spokesman for the Office of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Force, Qassim Atta has already announced the foil of several attempts to attack the base Spyker in Salahuddin province and the killing of all the attackers.
