Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring mentioned in its latest report that 36 earthquakes of different magnitudes hit Iraq in September.

The monthly report published by local media stated that the total number of earthquakes recorded in the Iraqi seismic monitoring network for the past month was 36 within the borders of Iraq.

The Iraqi authority also monitored 11 earthquakes inside Iran and one earthquake in Syria.

The earthquakes measured between 1 and 5.2 degrees on the Richter scale, and their focal depths ranged from 6 to 29 kilometers.

Seismic activity during September was concentrated inside Iraq in Chamchamal district in the northern Iraqi governorate of Sulaymaniyah, and the number of tremors there reached 15, in addition to 7 tremors being recorded in Erbil governorate and 6 in Wasit governorate in eastern Iraq.

The seismic monitoring network in Iraq recorded four tremors in Nineveh governorate, two tremors in Maysan governorate, and one tremor in each of Kirkuk and Diyala governorates.

Earthquake experts see that the earthquakes recorded in Iraq during September do not constitute any danger because the seismic activity is distributed across several Iraqi cities and not concentrated in one place.
