Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, received the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohammed Al-Halbousi, on Sunday, at the Presidential Palace in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The meeting addressed the bilateral relations between the two countries, the importance of enhancing strategic cooperation, the latest developments in the region, and the stability of the situation in Syria, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Parliament.

Al-Halbousi assured El-Sisi that Iraq is keen to strengthen its relations with Egypt, expressing Iraq’s aspiration for more cooperation between Egypt and Iraq.

The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament stressed the importance of activating the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Iraq, Egypt and Jordan.

Last month, El-Sisi and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, discussed, in a phone call, several Arab and regional issues of common interest, as well as the Egyptian-Iraqi efforts to strengthen the frameworks of tripartite cooperation with Jordan.

The Egyptian President affirmed his country’s firm support for Iraq’s security and stability, and his keenness to strengthen the frameworks for joint cooperation in various fields.

Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s keenness to promote the frameworks of bilateral cooperation with Egypt, expressing his appreciation of the vital Egyptian role in strengthening the mechanisms of joint Arab action in facing the current crises and challenges in the region.
