Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Finance Committee in the Iraqi parliament began on Sunday discussing the draft federal budget law for the fiscal years 2023, 2024 and 2025, according to a statement cited by the state news agency (INA).

The press office of the Iraqi parliament mentioned in a statement that the Parliamentary Finance Committee, headed by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, began discussing the budget law.

The Parliamentary Finance Committee also set a date for the final vote on 2023 budget. INA reported.

Committee member, Mueen Al-Kadhimi, told Al-Iraqiya News that the committee is serious about moving towards discussing and approving the budget.

Al-Kadhimi explained that official sessions began and will continue to come out with a report that will be submitted to the parliament for the second reading.

The Iraqi MP elaborated that the second reading will be completed during the last week of April.

“Political blocs are serious about the need to pass the budget law, taking into account some remarks,” Al-Kadhimi said.

The Iraqi lawmaker indicated that the committee raised an objection to the amounts allocated to the development of 15 governorates, which are considered small.

Al-Kadhimi added that the final vote on 2023 budget will take place during May.
