Interior minister honors Iraqi Muay Thai champion

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Bulani on Sunday honored Iraqi Muay Thai wrestler Adel Abdulkadhem, who won a gold medal in the world tournament held in Thailand late last year, according to the Basra police chief. “Champion Abdulkadhem, who grabbed the 71-kg event in the world Muay Thai contest in Bangkok late 2009, received one million Iraqi dinars as a gift from Minister Bulani,” Maj. General Adel Daham told IraqiNews.com news agency. Muay Thai is a hard martial art from Thailand. It is similar to other Indochinese styles of kickboxing. The art has a long history in Thailand and is the country’s national sport. Muay Thai, as it is practiced today, varies significantly from its ancestor muay boran, such as in its use of gloves similar to those worn in Western boxing. AmR (P)/SR 1
