Iraq to participate in World Chess Olympics

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Chess Federation decided to participate in the world chess competitions to be held in Turkey from August 26-September 6.

The Secretary General of the Federation , Abdul Hadi Maftol stated to IraqiNews.com that ”The participation will be five men and five women and they will be selected according to the results of the final Iraqi chess competitions for both men and women.”

He added that ”The players who will represent Iraq in the World Competetions will be selected at the end of the training camp, which is held in Iran since August 5,” noting that “The players will be under the supervision of the two Iraqi coachs Ghassan Mohammed Ali and Ali Taleb Salem as well as two Iranian coaches.”

He continued saying that ”We always hope that the participation in the competitions will bring us some medals, as it happened in the Olympic games of 1986, 1998 and 2000, when Iraq obtained four medals.”
