14-km Green belt north of Kut

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: Implementation measures are currently underway for a green belt stretching 14 km in length north of Kut, the agriculture director said today. The cost of the belt will reach to 1.2 billion dinars, within Regional Development Projects of 2012, to be completed within 13 months time. The width of the green belt shall be no more than 100 meters. The project was suggested following a study indicating it may help to counter sand storms during the summer time. Studies have indicated that desertification, lack of water and rain are the main reasons for the sand storms in the country. Kut, the center of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of the capital, Baghdad. RM (TP)/SR 2481
