2,000-year-old tomb unearthed in Arbil

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: An ancient 2,000-year-old tomb was unearthed 200 meters west of the Arbil castle, according to a Kurdish archeologist. “A local resident has dug a well four meters deep inside his house in early November 2008. Discovering an ancient chamber, he reported it to the Archeological Department of Arbil, which set up a team to excavate the site,” Dilshad Ali Zamowa, the director of archeological research and studies at the Kurdistan Archeologists Syndicate, told IraqiNews.com. “Today some archeological pieces were found inside a tomb dating back to a royal or well-off family,” he said, adding “excavation works would continue thanks to these encouraging results”.
