Artifacts found in Sadr City

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Rare valuable archeological pieces as well as remains of skeletons believed to date back to the pre-Islamic era were unearthed during excavation works to stretch sanitary sewage pipes in the eastern Baghdad district of Sadr City, the Baghdad mayoralty said in a release on Sunday. “The archeological find includes jars, earthenware and vessels kept with the bodies of their owners in ancient graves,” according to the release as received by IraqiNews.com news agency. A technical team was formed and visited the site and asked for stopping any digging works pending the completion of archeological explorations in the area, it added. The Baghdad Mayoralty had earlier unearthed four archeological pieces in the area of Khidr Elias in Baghdad’s al-Karkh intersection, which date back to the Sumerian age, during works to fix water pipelines.
