Iraqi Journalists Union calls for AL support-statement

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi chief of the Journalists Union on Tuesday called for the Arab League to support Iraqi reporters and upgrade their skills. “The Chief of Iraqi journalists met the Arab League’s (AL) envoy to Baghdad Hani Khallaf, highlighting the sacrifice of reporters and calling for the AL to play a role by holding training courses and conferences to develop Iraqi journalists skills,” said the Union of Journalists’ statement received by IraqiNews.com. “The AL envoy applauded the role played by Iraqi journalists and called on the Union chief to nominate a number of journalists for a training course in Cairo through a coordinated efforts between the Egyptians and Iraqis” the announcement cited the AL envoy Khalaf as saying. Iraqi journalists have faced a number of attacks and assassinations. The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) deemed Iraq the most dangerous country for journalists in the world.
