Najaf demonstrates 500 antiquities in its museum

NAJAF / IraqiNews.com: Preparations were completed to show 500 archaeological pieces in Najaf Museum, the head of Antiquities Department said here today. Mohammed Hadi al-Mayali told IraqiNews.com that the pieces shall be shown in two halls, the first for Mesopotamia civilization and the other for the antiquities discovered in Najaf province, starting from ancient Babylonian dates up to the Islamic period. The pieces will comprise crosses that date back to the Christian era, Babylonian tablets and iron coins. Najaf was chosen as the capital of Islamic culture in 2012 by the Islamic Culture Organization, which was held in Azerbaijan. Najaf lies 160 km south of the capital, Baghdad. RM (TS)/SR 535
