Over 1,300 families leave Wassit for home

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: More than 1,300 families have returned to their places of origin from Wassit province until October 2008, a local security source said on Sunday. “More than 1,300 displaced families that had fled to Wassit province returned to their homes in other Iraqi provinces, according to statistics released by the displacement and migration department until the end of October,” the source told IraqiNews.com. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy.
