Unlicensed foodstuff banned entry to Basra

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Health-harmful foodstuffs have been prevented from entering Basra province through border outlets, the local operations command said on Tuesday. “In cooperation with Basra’s veterinary hospital, expired foodstuffs and other items that were not subjected to medical scrutiny were banned from entering Basra through border outlets,” Brig. Abbas al-Tamimi told IraqiNews.com. Yesterday, Basra’s veterinary hospital destroyed 120 tons of milk and a large amount of meat that is unfit for human consumption, which have entered the city from neighboring provinces. The Shiite province of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 1
