26 Kurds killed in ISIS attack in northern Iraq

Erbil (IraqiNews.com) On Saturday, 26 Kurdish elements were killed in an attack by the ISIS organization in al-Kower area southwestern the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq, according to Kurdish sources.

The sources said that the ISIS elements launched a surprise attack by sneaking across the Zab River using boats, and took control of al-Kower for about an hour, before Kurdish forces launched a counter-attack and expelled them.

The sources differed about whether the attack took place on Friday night, or early at the dawn of Saturday.

The deputy director of Asayish troops in the city of Erbil, Barazan Kassab told AFP that 26 components of Asayish troops were killed in the attack, that targeted a point located at a distance of about 40 km southwest of Erbil.
