(IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi revealed that, the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi wounded in an Iraqi strike western Anbar had managed to “narrowly escape.” Abadi also stated he doubted the former vice-president of the Revolutionary Command Council Izzat al-Duri is present in Iraq.

Abadi said in an interview for the British newspaper ‘London Life’ issued today, followed by IraqiNews.com, “I do not believe Izzat al-Duri to be in Iraq,” adding that, “If he was in Iraq, he would have been arrested long ago. I think he is in another country.”

The Prime Minister added, “Al-Baghdadi was wounded in the town of Qaim in an Iraqi air strike; he survived miraculously and moved elsewhere,” noting that, “Al-Baghdadi is in Mosul sometimes, but more often in Syria, not in Iraq.”

There were reports during the past two days about the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s escape from Mosul to Syria, while local sources in Mosul in Nineveh province (405 km north of Baghdad) said, “Al-Baghdadi was transferred to a hospital in the Syrian city of Deir Zour.”
