Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced Tuesday, that the ISIS military commander in al-Hawija district was killed by the army forces in an operation in al-Fatha area, located in northern Tikrit.

The ministry said in a statement today, “A force from Dijla Operations Command managed to liberate the area of al-Fatha during an operation in Hamrin Mountains,” noting that, “A large number of ISIS elements have been killed, including the ISIS military commander of al-Hawija, better known as Abu Abdullah al-Saudi, alongside a number of his aides.”

“Al-Fatha represents a vital and tactical port for ISIS to send reinforcements from Kirkuk province,” the statement added.
