Maliki regrets lawyers’ defense of criminals

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki expressed his regret towards behavior of “some lawyers who defend criminals.”

A statement by the PM office quoted Maliki as saying during the ceremony held by the Lawyers Union to celebrate the 79 anniversary for establishing the Union “The lawyer carrier is the base to establish justice,” wishing lawyers “All success and progress n order to build a modern and civilized State based on legal and constitutional aspects.”

“We regret that some lawyers defend the criminals as they did when they defended the criminal Saddam Hussein,” he stressed, calling the lawyers to defend “the oppressed and resort to constitution in their mission.”
