Kurdistan exports oil to move from constitutional to practical rights – official

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Kurdistan region will export oil to move from the constitutional to practical rights, an advisor to the region’s president for oil affairs said on Monday. “This step will develop the Iraqi economy,” Khalid Salih told IraqiNews.com news agency. “By mid 2010, the region will produce 250,000 barrels per day (bpd),” he said. “During the coming three years, the region will be able to produce one million bpd,” he added. On May 9, the Ministry of Natural Resources in the regional government announced the official start on June 1, 2009 of oil exports from the Tawke field at an average rate of 60,000 bpd. The ministry also said that 40,000 bpd of crude exports from Taq Taq field, which has estimated oil reserves of 1.2 billion barrels, would begin traveling by truck and through an Iraqi-Turkish export pipeline.
